Course Costs: Always check the fees and costs for an individual course
before applying. Information on higher education costs, eligibility for
Commonwealth Supported Places (CSP), and eligibility for the loans to defer these
costs (such as HECs-HELP, VET FEE-HELP and FEE-HELP) is available at www.goingtouni.gov.au.
Income Support:
While you study, you may be eligible for income
support such as Youth Allowance, Austudy or Abstudy. In 2010 there were a large number of changes and more people
are now eligible, particularly rural and regional students. Visit www.centrelink.gov.au and www.deewr.gov.au
Scholarships
and Awards: Scholarships and awards are monetary grants that you can earn through
your personal achievements or circumstances. All higher education
students receiving any income support from Centrelink will receive the Student
Start-up Scholarship; and those who have to relocate to study receive the
Relocation Scholarship. The Department of Education
& Training offers several scholarships and awards for Year 12 school
leavers, University & TAFE students and more. Individual Universities also
offer their own academic, sporting, equity or access scholarships. Definitely
check to see if you are eligible to apply.
