Launch
yourself into a professional career by completing higher education at
university, TAFE or private institutions. To learn more about Counting
the Costs, and what university is like, check Your National Career Guide.
For now, let’s take a closer look at what’s on offer right here.

For tertiary education with a great mix of theory and practice, complete
a Diploma or Advanced Diploma at TAFE or private institutes. As well as a respected qualification

excellent upgrading pathway to a university degree.

The Letters After Your Name
Graduate from university and not only are
you more likely to be employed, you earn more. Graduate Careers Australia (GCA) figures show the recent
median starting salary for bachelor degree graduates aged less than 25 years was
$49,000.
NSW offers some
fantastic universities: Respected
qualifications, beautiful campuses, diverse faculties, residential colleges and
sporting facilities, exchange programs, student clubs and societies…university
can be an exciting life.
Explore
which institutions are the leaders in your chosen field; it may not be the ones
you expect. It’s also important to
find the right fit for you. Go exploring and visit campuses! Gather information and attend expos and open days. Dates are advertised on institution
websites, the UAC Guide and website,
in schools and in the local media.
Pick
Me, Pick Me
Apply for most
NSW and ACT tertiary institutions through the University Admissions Centre
(UAC). UAC produces a range of
resources to help you explore your options. All current NSW Year 12 students
receive a free copy of the UAC 2013 Guide in July and the
website has information on how to apply, a course
search and the online application.
The due date
for on-time applications is 28 September 2012. Be wise and prepare early – some creative and performing
arts courses, or, medicine and oral health courses have earlier dates for
audition, portfolio, interview or examination requirements.
Check the minimum entry requirements
and previous cut-offs in the online course search or in the Guide. You can select up to nine course
preferences, so build in a range of courses from ‘ideal’ to ‘realistic’ to
‘foot-in-the-door’. It’s vital
that you order of your preferences carefully so seek help from UAC and your
school Career Advisor.
ATARs are released on 20 December so you have plenty of time to make
your final course decisions for most courses commencing Semester 1, 2013. The final date to change preferences
for Main Round offers is 4 January 2013.
Year 12 students who are not eligible for an ATAR may still apply for
some tertiary courses.
Main Round offers are released on 16
January 2013.
