Study, work, travel - so many options open up when you finish school. And while there’s plenty of reasons to party, it’s a good idea to sort out your career goals first. Sure, you’ve got the rest of your life to work and study – but the choices you make now can help lay the foundations for the rest of your life.

Ask yourself the following questions:

  • What subjects do you like doing?
  • What subjects are you good at?
  • Do you like working outside, or do you see yourself being happy in an office environment?
  • What do you like doing in your spare time?
  • Do you want to live in the country or the city?
  • Do you want to continue your studies or would on-the-job training as part of an apprenticeship suit you better?
  • Do you prefer working alone or as part of a team?

Write down your answers. Already you’ve narrowed down your options. And that can be a good thing – otherwise the number of choices out there can seem overwhelming.

There are lots of website that can also help you. Check out www.myfuture.edu.au to see what career it suggests for you.
