New scholarship in not-for-profit sector [Tuesday, 24 November 2009]
The Faculty of Economics and Business at The University of Sydney will offer a major $50,000 not-for-profit scholarship for one participant undertaking the new Global Executive MBA.
Commencing in 2010, the Global Executive MBA is an innovative degree designed specifically for experienced high performing managers to gain a strong competitive advantage in today's global marketplace.
The scholarship was, in part, made possible by the generous contribution of two University of Sydney graduates and is intended to assist in developing the managerial competencies of executives in the not-for-profit sector.
The scholarship is open to local students who successfully gain entry to the Global Executive MBA program and are employed by a not-for-profit organisation. It will be awarded to the candidate who, among other things, demonstrates outstanding:
* Innovative and entrepreneurial achievements for their not-for- profit organisation; * Leadership potential and motivation to achieve; and * Personal integrity.
Global Executive MBA Program Director, Professor Chris Styles, said apart from these key criteria applicants will have to prove they are committed to a career in the not-for-profit sector and show how they will benefit from successfully completing the degree.
'Not-for-profit organisations make an enormous contribution to the community but are often a neglected part of the business world,' he said.
'This scholarship highlights the faculty's commitment to fostering the development of leadership skills among program participants and should encourage a diverse range of senior executives to consider postgraduate management education.
'We hope the scholarship will encourage more not-for-profit organisations to learn how to maximise involvement from potential donors and assist them in exploring strategic ways of maximising the impact of their organisations in increasingly competitive times.'
The scholarship recipient will be selected by a committee, chaired by the Global Executive MBA Program Director.
Expressions of interest regarding this scholarship should be made as soon as possible as interviews for the2010 cohort have commenced.
